Everyone is equal and will be treated equally
Gender
Gender issues have hardly been out of the news these past couple of years, so I felt it important to state my position.
Here at Hackney Bike Fit, I am happy to see women, men, people who are non-binary, people who are trans and everyone else. If you ride a bike, you are welcome. If you don’t, there isn’t much point in paying for a bike fit.
On my pre-fit questionnaire, I have the optional question of stating your gender. The reason I ask this is because many people come to me because they are experiencing saddle related issues. Female and male genitals may experience saddle pain or numbness in different ways. The solutions are very similar: less pressure on the saddle, better saddle position and angle, maybe a different saddle. I have a library of saddles which I lend out for this purpose.
If you come to me to discuss saddle pain, this question is relevant but we can discuss it in person.
Female Only Space
As my bike fits take place in a private studio at the back of a bike shop, I can provide a female only space. If you normally wear an abaya or loose fitting outer clothing, it would be preferable if you removed outer layers for your bike fit. This is so I can see your joints move as you cycle, especially your knees and hips. Cycling bibs, leggings or trousers are ideal. My studio has an opaque door, which can be further obscured. I want to make sure that everyone who comes to my studio is comfortable. If you are not comfortable in removing your outer layers but would still like a bike fit, you are still welcome to come. It may be worth contacting me beforehand and we can discuss how this may affect your bike fit.
Size and Weight Limits
I have two stationary trainers and a Purely Custom fitting jig. The weight limit for both trainers is approximately 136kg / 23.6 stone / 300lbs for bike and rider. If you are above this weight, please contact me before booking. We may still be able to go ahead, but should avoid testing at higher speeds and testing will be at your own risk. We can discuss this further.
For most of my bike fits, I use a Wahoo Rollr which has a weight limit of 112kg/250lb/17.8stone for rider and bike. I have had heavier clients on the trainer, but if you weight over this amount, you may have to use the basic / non-smart trainer. I also have a Purely Custom fitting jig to test bike sizes other than your own and different crank lengths.
If you are significantly outside these limits, please still contact me. I will do my best to find a way to fit you.
As stated above, everyone is welcome. If you ride a bike, I want you to be as comfortable and powerful as possible.
